15 Bank Holidays in April 2023
The work of most banks in India is regulated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Bank holidays are decided after the consent of the Reserve Bank of India. Government and private banks do not work on Sundays, apart from the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. In April 2023, banks will remain closed for a total of 15 days, including Sundays along with second and fourth Saturdays.
The first holiday in April will be on 1st April, which is the annual closing of bank accounts. Mahavir Jayanti will be observed on 4th April. While these holidays won’t affect the functioning of the bank during the whole month, it’s always better to plan your banking transactions accordingly. ATM, cash deposit, online banking, and mobile banking will continue to work during this period. It’s important to note that holidays can vary according to different states.
RBI Guidelines on Bank Holidays
According to RBI guidelines, apart from Sundays, banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month as well. Under the Negotiable Instruments Act, RBI has declared bank holidays on 1, 4, 5, 7, 14, 15, 18, 21, and 22 April. Additionally, 5 Sundays are falling on April 2, 9, and 16 in April.
