Asia-Pacific Institute of Management Organizes A Two-Day National Conference on ‘Leadership Challenges in Managing Modern Business Organizations’

As part of its endeavour to provide industry interface and impart the best leadership practices among its students, Asia-Pacific Institute of Management, a premier management institute in India, today organized a two-day National Conference on ‘Leadership Challenges in Managing Modern Business Organizations’ at its campus in Jasola.

Dr. Prajapati Trivedi, Secretary Performance Management Government of India and Chairman, National Authority, Chemical Weapons Convention, Cabinet Secretariat presided as the Chief Guest. Dr. Uddesh Kohli, Senior Adviser, Global Compact, United Nations; Former CMD Power Finance Corporation; Adviser Planning Commission and Chairman SCOPE graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. The panelists also included Mr. Sameer Mathur, Member, Board of Governors, Asia-Pacific Institute of Management , Dr. S.N. Dash, Director (Officiating), Asia-Pacific Institute of Management and Dr S. B .Sengupta, Senior Professor and the  National Conference Convener. The conference was organised in order to identify leadership practices existing in different types of organizations and to ascertain the challenges being faced by these organizations. The conference provided a platform for the students and faculty members to visualize the opportunities that exists for achieving business success through leadership effectiveness.

Addressing the students on the importance of efficient business leadership, Dr. Prajapati Trivedi, Secretary Performance Management Government of India and Chairman, National Authority, Chemical Weapons Convention, Cabinet Secretariat said, “It is a pleasure to be amidst the budding managers of tomorrow. I will share some of my journey with you, being a part of the Government of India. It is seen that the Government agencies are not perceived to be an organisation of efficiency. The reason for this is that such agencies need to face multiple principles and goals and the ‘not me syndrome’. All experts agree that performance depends 80% on the system and 20% on the people. In a bad system, good people can never survive. When the system is good, efficient people can work better. Actually it is very important to reduce quantity on Government and Increase quality of Government to churn in the best results. When there is accountability at the top, it tends to tickle down to other systems, sub-systems as well. In India, we have formulated our own RFD i.e. Results Framework Document. The quality of an efficient Government cannot be lower than that of its clients- specifically the private sector. For a perfect performance management system, it is important to have a good information system, a good performance evaluation system and a performance incentive system.”
