Mumbai : The NCP, a prominent opposition party to the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance in Maharashtra, has experienced a split. Ajit Pawar, a leader of the NCP, convened a meeting with party leaders at his residence on Sunday and subsequently proceeded directly to the Raj Bhavan. In the presence of Maharashtra CM Shinde and Deputy CM Fadnavis, Ajit joined the NDA. Following this, he was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister of the state. Reliable sources indicate that Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar enjoys the support of 40 NCP MLAs and 6 NCP MLCs.

New Cabinet Members Take Oath

Following Ajit Pawar’s oath-taking, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis also arrived at the Raj Bhavan. With Ajit Pawar assuming office, Maharashtra now has two deputy CMs. Furthermore, nine NCP MLAs have been appointed as ministers in the Maharashtra cabinet. The list includes Chhagan Bhujbal and Dilip Valse Patil, among others. The newly appointed ministers are Hasan Mushrif, Dhananjay Munde, Aditi Tatkare, Anil Bhaidas Patil, Baburao Atram, and Sanjay Bansode.

The recently appointed Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, has made changes to his Twitter bio. Today, numerous NCP leaders, including Ajit Pawar, expressed their support for the NDA government in Maharashtra. Following his oath-taking ceremony, Ajit Pawar held a press conference where he affirmed the decision to support the Maharashtra government and assume office as a minister. Detailed discussions about department allocations will be held later. This decision has been made after considering various aspects at the national level. We, along with the majority of NCP MLAs, have chosen to align with the Shinde-Fadnavis government. Today, we took the oath, and in the forthcoming expansion, additional ministers will be inducted.

Resilience Amidst Criticism

Ajit Pawar acknowledged that there may be criticism directed towards their decision, but they do not give it much importance. Their focus remains on working for the progress of Maharashtra. This is the reason behind their decision, and most of the NCP MLAs are content with it. They have extended their support to this government as members of the NCP party. In all future elections, they will participate solely under the banner of the NCP. Although some MLAs are currently unavailable as they are out of the country, Ajit Pawar has personally spoken to all of them, and they concur with the decision.

Ajit Pawar emphasized that the country is functioning under the leadership of Narendra Modi. His popularity extends beyond the borders, and thus, he enjoys widespread support. PM Modi has undertaken substantial initiatives in areas such as the Vande Bharat train and road infrastructure. While their opponents focus solely on their respective states, PM Modi is dedicated to serving the entire country. They aim to contest assembly and Lok Sabha elections together.

Asserting Ownership of NCP

During this development, Ajit Pawar has also asserted his ownership of the NCP. He stated that the majority of MLAs and MPs are with him. The party and its election symbol belong to him. Party workers and supporters stand united with their decision. Ajit Pawar mentioned speaking with Sharad Pawar over the phone and confirmed their intention to contest elections under the party’s symbol. The party blesses their actions, and they believe in providing opportunities to new individuals within the NCP, including women. Ajit Pawar justified this decision by highlighting the need for strong leadership and development in Maharashtra.

Chhagan Bhujbal’s Praise for NCP

Chhagan Bhujbal expressed his support for the government, emphasizing their alignment with the NCP. He praised Prime Minister Modi for his work and expressed a desire to work under his leadership. Sharad Pawar had previously stated that when the time comes, they will come together with the PM.

Sharad Pawar’s Departure

Amidst the ongoing political turmoil in Maharashtra, Sharad Pawar has left his residence in Pune. It is worth noting that Sharad Pawar had already refuted information about Ajit Pawar convening a meeting of the NCP at his residence.

Setback for the Mahavikas Aghadi Alliance

This split within the NCP has direct consequences for Sharad Pawar’s leadership. Out of the total 53 MLAs in the NCP, 40 have pledged their support to Ajit Pawar. Consequently, the Mahavikas Aghadi alliance, which competes against the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance, has suffered a significant setback. Furthermore, if Ajit Pawar stakes his claim on the NCP, the party’s very existence may be at stake.
