Chandigarh,
All India Mother-in-Law Protection Forum (AIMPF) will hold its first interactive weekly session/meeting for the mother in laws and sister in laws at the Leisure Valley, here on Sunday evening.

A regular meeting will be held very Sunday at the Leisure Valley (Adjoining Stop N Stare), Sector 10 from 4 P.M. to 7P.M, wherein AIMPF will work towards upliftment of the mothers-in-law by creating awareness and giving them moral support.

Looking at the response that the forum got, the local chapter are seeking and calling members from Delhi chapter to help the victims, who are expected to gather in large numbers, here in Sunday.

The forum till now has received more than 250 calls not only from India but also from abroad including Canada and Australia.

In charge of the Chandigarh Chapter, Mrs. Manjit Puri said, “I was shocked to see mother in laws crying for help. They are not only threatened but are also thrashed by their daughter in laws and her family members. The situation is becoming pathetic day and day and if the government continues being just a mute spectator, days are not far, when marriage in India will end”.

Most of the complaints pertain to in-laws talking about the ‘misuse’ of the Dowry Act. Pouring their heart out to the counsellors, they have claimed that there have been instances when daughters-in-law have joined hands with her parents and trapped them in false cases.

“They are old people almost at the end of their lives but this has not deterred their daughters-in-law from torturing and harassing them. Most of them are dependent on their sons which is a bone of contention. While the son wants his parents to stay with him in old age, his wife wants them out which causes conflict,” said Manjit.
