Agriculture sector is critical for our economy as 60-70 percent of our population is dependent on it for livelihood : Scindhia

Ratnam Chandra,, INVC,, Delhi,, The Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Shri Jyotiraditya M Scindhia said that with proper investment in agriculture, technical innovation and infrastructure for food processing India could well become the food basket of the world. Speaking at the APEDA Export Awards function which coincided with the celebrations of 25 years of APEDA, Shri Scindhia said that agriculture sector is critical for our economy as 60-70 percent of our population is dependent on it for livelihood. “we require 4.5 to 5 per cent growth in agriculture to uplift our economy in rural areas” he added. Referring to recent initiatives to reduce transaction costs, the Minister said that the Ministry is committed to build on the first instalment of transaction cost reducing initiatives which have resulted in saving of Rs 2100 crore in perpetuity. He hoped to come out with fresh initiatives on annual or bi-annual basis.
