A decisive step has been taken by Putin to counter the threat of gas supply disruption

The European Union (EU) governments have agreed to limit natural gas supplies in the coming winter, amid fears that Russia will cut gas supplies due to the war in Ukraine.

EU energy ministers have approved a draft of European legislation to reduce gas demand by 15 percent from August to March.

The new law includes voluntary national steps to reduce gas consumption and if they fail to save, the 27-member group will take mandatory steps.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the move, saying the EU has taken a decisive step to counter the threat of gas supply disruption by (Russian President Vladimir) Putin. PLC/GT
