Bangalore – : Regarding the ban on hijab in schools and colleges in Karnataka, Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa said that the Congress government will take such a decision which will benefit all students.
Bangarappa acknowledged that there were some legal hurdles on the hijab issue, but we are about to take a decision that will benefit the entire student community. We will pursue the matter legally keeping in mind the interests of all the students, he added. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and the Congress had insisted that all laws made on communal grounds by the previous BJP government, including the ban on hijab, would be rolled back after the Congress came to power in the state.
Cabinet Minister Priyank Kharge has said that the Congress will withdraw the ban on hijab, halal cut and cow slaughter laws. The hijab controversy, started by six girl students of Udupi Pre-University Girls’ College, turned into a crisis in the state last year.
Bangarappa in his address said that there is no confusion regarding textbooks and uniforms. All preparations have been made to start the schools for the academic year, he said. I am visiting a school in Shivamogga and welcoming students to the schools. Education department is ready. Children can come to schools without any worry. After Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that he would not allow lessons that poison the minds of children, Bangarappa said the textbook revision exercise would be done in a phased manner.
The Congress party in its manifesto had assured textbook revision. The revision exercise will be done in a phased manner, he added.
