8500 students were being imparted higher education in the private universities opened in the State – Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal

Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister said that possibilities would be explored to introduce technical and vocational education at Senior Secondary level in schools to make the education employment-oriented in the State. He was addressing the one-day workshop on ‘National Vocational Education Qualification Framework’ organised by All India Technical Education Council, CSK Agriculture University, Palampur and Himachal Pradesh Technical University at Palampur in district Kangra today.

Prof. Dhumal stressed upon the importance of technical education which could solve the problem of unemployment and added that skill upgradation would be focused upon in technical institutions in the State so that youth could be equipped with vocational skills which would enable them to secure employment and adopting self-employment ventures etc.

Chief Minister said that the State was spending 19 percent of the total budget to strengthen the education sector and added that State was emerging as education hub. He said that 8500 students were being imparted higher education in the private universities opened in the State. He said that with the opening of these universities, higher education was available in the State itself and the students need not go outside the State.

Prof. Dhumal said that Himachal Pradesh was the first State in the country which had constituted Regulatory Commission to monitor the private educational institutions. He said that one ITI each had been opened in every assembly constituency of the State to train youth in different vocational trades to cater to the demands of the industrial sector. He said that all the students who had completed training in the ITIs got employment in the private sector last year.

Chief Minister said that the State Government had opened one Central University in Kangra district besides National Fashion Technology Institute where students from all over the country were being imparted quality education. He said

that Food and Craft Institute would also start functioning at Khaniyara near Dharamshala from next year.

Later, Chief Minister also paid obeisance at Shiv Mandir Baijnath and listened to public grievances.

Shri Narender Bragta, Horticulture and Technical Education Minister said that efforts had been made to strengthen the technical education sector in the State and added that Technical University had been set up at Hamirpur to impart quality education to students in the State.

Shri Ashok Thakur, Special Secretary, Ministry of HRD, Government of India also spoke on the occasion.

Prof. S.S. Mantha, Chairman, All India Technical Education Council, Shri S.K. Dass, Principal Secretary, Technical Education also gave their valuable inputs in the workshop.

Prof. S.K. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, CSK Agriculture University, Palampur welcomed the Chief Minister.

Prof. S.K. Dhiman, Vice-Chancellor, H.P. Technical University proposed vote of thanks.

Shri Ravinder Singh Ravi, Irrigation and Public Health Minister, Smt. Sarveen Chaudhary, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister, Capt. Atma Ram, Shri Parveen Sharma and Shri Sanjay Chaudhary, MLAs, Shri Balram Sharma, Chairman, H.P. Board of School Education, Shri Trilok Kapoor, Chairman, H.P. Wool Federation, senior officers and prominent persons of the area were present on the occasion.
