Shri Ram Niwas Home Secretary UT announced that Ministry of Tourism has given a massive financial support of 27 crores for new Tourism projects in a meeting convened to review the progress made regarding Chandigarh Tourism projects for which Ministry of Tourism, Government of India has so far sanctioned the highest ever financial assistance of around 43 crores for promotion of Tourism in Chandigarh. The meeting was attended by Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Chief Engineer UT, Chief Architect UT, Chief conservator, MD CITCO, Director Tourism and other senior officials of Chandigarh Administration.

            The Ministry of Tourism has released an amount of Rs 498 lakh for promotion of Night Tourism. This project includes illumination of monuments and building of Le Corbusier in the Capitol Complex which would enable the visitors to have an unforgettable memorable experience of the grandeur of these architectural edifices. For the illumination, Chief Engineer UT informed that hi-technology energy efficient and less maintenance equipment shall be installed. Plans are on the anvil to illuminate the entry points to Chandigarh on the peripheral routes from Mullapur, Mohali and Panchkula. These entry points shall become added attraction for the tourist visitors, as these would be beautifully landscaped and lighted at night to enhance night tourism dimensions in the city.

            According to Home Secretary Chandigarh “It is endeavor of Chandigarh Administration to develop Chandigarh as a major tourist destination in this region and with the financial support of Ministry of Tourism to create world class standard Tourism infrastructure at prominent places in the city. He further directed the Chief Engineer UT to implement the tourism projects in a time bound manner.

            The Ministry of Tourism has also released an additional amount of 1.8 crores for development of Garden of Conifers in sector 52 apart from the release of 4.5 crores for development Garden of Palms in Sector 42 and Animal theme based garden in sector 49. The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation shall develop the Animal theme based garden on an area of 8 acres in sector 49 as a major attraction for visitors in the southern belt of the city. For the development of these gardens professional support shall be provided by Chandigarh College of Architecture.

Further impetus to tourism in Chandigarh has been given by the Ministry of Tourism with the release of 19 crores for creation of new infrastructure at Dr.Ambedkar Institute of Hotel Management at sector 42 with the construction of new excellence development centre at a cost of nine crores and building infrastructure to be created at another cost of 10 crores.

Home Secretary also reviewed the ongoing progress at Sukhna Lake, Botanical Garden and Rose Garden for which Ministry of Tourism has already released 11.5 crores.
