1500 constables to join the main fleet soon : Virbhadra Singh

Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh while presiding over the 49th State Annual Police Sports and Duty meet at Dharamsala today said that sports activities bring individuals and organisations together, highlighting commonalities and bridging cultural and ethnic divides. He said that the sports were the easiest and inherent way of bringing people together, salvaging their strength and reinforcing their resolve to succeed.

“Sports provide a forum to hone skills like discipline, confidence and leadership and strengthen core principles like acceptance, co-operation besides expounding the value of effort and teach the participants how to manage victory as well as defeat”, said the Chief Minister.

He said that the life skills learned through sports help empower individuals and enhance psycho-social well-being like increased resilience, self-esteem and connection with others.

He said the events like this competition inculcate a sense of oneness amongst the participants and fire the competitiveness in participants to excel in whatever you do. He said that the Police need continuous reassessment and reassurance in terms of their mental and physical fitness. These events will help to test their physical agility, mental resilience and serve to enhance these traits which were crucial to policing and indicate their relative levels, urging further accomplishment and better liaison with the people.

The Chief Minister said the State Government recruited 1500 constables this year and they would be joining the main fleet soon as they were undergoing training.

He also distributed prizes to the winners of various sports, cultural and duty disciplines. He hoped that many players from amongst the 500, who participated in this sports and duty meet will bring laurels to the state by excelling themselves and ensuring their participation in National and International Sports events.

“The event indeed, is a test of endurance, both physical and mental, and I congratulate the winners and all the teams who have participated in these events for their sheer fortitude, grit and determination”, he said.

He added Himachal Pradesh Police was endowed with unfettered professional freedom in the state government and had always risen to the challenges confronting them, which was a matter of proud. He said that such sports meet should be made an annual affair.

The Chief Minister also took salute from impressive march past presented by the participants including both men and women police contingents from Southern range, Northern Range, Central Unit and Reserve battalions.

Shri Virbhadra Singh directed for regular maintenance of police stations and police posts including police residences and announced a sum of ? 30 lakh for maintenance of residential complexes of Police Thanas in Kangra district including a sum of ? 25 lakh for maintenance of barracks.

He also announced ? 20 lakh for retaining walls, a sum of ? 20 lakh for repair of barracks of Sakoh Battalion at Dharamsala and ? 25 lakh for repair of residential accommodation of second IRB Sakoh.

He announced a sum of ? 60 lakh for police ground and Kala Kendra at Dharamsala. He directed that no constructions be allowed around the police ground at Dharamsala and to issue necessary orders in this regard.

DGP Shri Sanjay Kumar detailed about the activities undertaken in last three days. He said that the Head Constable, Priyanka Negi from Himachal police represented India in national Kabaddi tournaments.

The prize for best team in sports and athletics was won by Central Unit and the best Battalion Trophy was bagged by 1st Indian Reserve Battalion, Bangad, Una.

A cultural programme based on road safety was also presented on the occasion by the police personnels.

Transport Minister Shri G.S. Bali, Urban Development Minister Shri Sudhir Sharma, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Shri Jagjeevan Pal, MLAs Shri Sanjay Rattan and Shri Yadvinder Goma, Chairman, KCCB Shri Jagdish Sapheiya, Chairman, Education Board Shri Balbir Tegta, Mayor, MC, Dharamsala, Rajni Vyas, Deputy Mayor, Shri Davinder Jaggi were also present on the occasion amongst senior civil and Police officers.

Meanwhile, talking to the media, the Chief Minister said that the much awaited site for construction of Central University at Jadrangal near Dharamsala had been finalised and the government would take up issue pertaining to environment clearance with the government of India.
