This educational institution came into existence in 1912 during the British era -Urmila Singh

Governor Smt. Urmila Singh said that together with providing quality education to the students their overall development was also necessary for nation building.

She was presiding over centennial ceremony of St. Thomas School here today.

Smt. Singh also dedicated the ancient and heritage building of St. Thomas School in the name of Shri Sadhu Sunder Singh, the preacher.

She said that this educational institution came into existence in 1912 during the British era and due to the farsightedness of the then Principal late Ms. Helen Zarwood this education institution became a centre of par excellence for the girl child.

Felicitating the Management Committee on the occasion the Governor said that not only since last 100 years the management has carried the principles set by Ms. Helen the founder but also had introduced various activities during this period. She said that it had helped overall grooming of the students.

The Governor said that we should strive to fulfill the basic educational facilities of the children together with chiseling them and making them responsible citizens to contribute in the national welfare. The need of the hour was also to aware them regarding protecting the environment and it also necessary to introduce lessons based on environment protection in school curriculum, she said.

Smt. Singh congratulated the management of the school and wished that they would maintain the standards in times to come.

Smt. Satvasheela Prithvi Raj Chavan, wife of Maharashtra Chief Minister was Guest of Honour and released the centenary logo on the occasion.

Bishop P.K. Samantha Rai also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, Smt. Vidhu Priya Chakravarty, Principal of the School welcomed the Governor and detailed the itinerary of the school and its activities.

As colourful cultural programme was also presented by the school children.

Smt. Madhu Sood, Mayor, Municipal Corporation, Shimla and other distinguished guests were present on the occasion.
