Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister, said that the police had to win the trust of common man and in changed circumstances it has to present itself with humane face. He was presiding over the prize distribution function of World Tobacco Day organized by the State Police here last evening. Sadbhavana Marathon ‘Run to Shun Tobacco’ was also organized to mark the occasion.
Chief Minister said that celebration of the Days should not be limited but should be made a regular practice. He said that spirit and message of the Day should percolate down throughout the year. He said that similarly every day needed to be observed as Anti-Tobacco Day and society, especially the youth, educated of its drastic health hazards. He said that drug mafia was targeting the youth whom they were making victims of drug addiction. He said that the police needed to keep strict vigil over such anti-national elements who were bent upon weakening the roots of the nation. He said that stern action was required to be taken against those involved in drug trafficking. He said that under the present circumstances role of the police had also changed by putting up humane face. He said that Himachal Pradesh was known as the best disciplined force in the country dedicated to serve the society with dedication and devotion towards its duties. He said that the Sadbhavna Marathon organized by the State Police had added to the credibility of the force amongst the masses since runners from all walks of life and age groups had participated in it. He said that such a practice needed to be continued in future endeavours as well.
