जैव प्रौद्योगिकी विभाग ने 1989 में जैव कीटनाशकों और फसल प्रबंध के क्षेत्र की स्थापना की थी। किफायती एवं व्यावसायिक रूप से वहनीय जैव नियंत्रक एजेंट/जैव कीटनाशकों का विकास और आर्थिक रूप से महत्वपूर्ण विभिन्न फसलों में विभिन्न पारितंत्रों के तहत उनकी फील्ड दक्षता का प्रदर्शन किया गया है। व्यापक उत्पादन के लिए विभिन्न राज्यों में उत्पादन एवं प्रदर्शन के लिए अनेक इकाइयां बनाई गई हैं। तमिलनाडु कृषि विश्वविद्यालय, कोयम्बटूर और कृषि के लिए महत्वपूर्ण राष्ट्रीय कार्यालय बंग्लूर में दो संग्रह केंद्रों की स्थापना के द्वारा विभिन्न उत्पादन इकाइयों के लिए जैव नियंत्रक एजेंटों की बीज कल्चर के संग्रह, अनुरक्षण एवं आपूर्ति की गई।
व्यावसायिक रूप से महत्वपूर्ण विभिन्न फसलों के लिए अनेक सक्षम एकीकृत कीट प्रबंध मॉड्यूल विकसित किए गए। इसके अलावा, संबंधित गांवों में पारितंत्र के टिकाऊ संरक्षण का भी प्रदर्शन किया गया। विभिन्न फसलों के एकीकृत कीट प्रबंध और इससे भिन्न खेतों में जैव कीटनाशक के किफायती होने का भी प्रदर्शन किया गया।
