Daily dialysis is better than 3 dialyses a week and 3 dialyses are better than 2 dialyses a week said panel of experts in a symposium on Kidney Transplant organized at Moolchand Medicity by IMSA Delhi Chapter, IMA New Delhi Branch, IMA Janak Puri Branch, Moolchand Board of Medical Education and e–Medinews.
The panelists included Dr. Brahm Vasudev and Dr. Monika Vasudev from USA, Dr. Ramesh Hotchandani and Padma Shri Awardee & Dr BC Roy National Awardee Dr. K. K. Aggarwal, Dr Archna Virmani from Moolchand Medicity, Dr. Sandeep Guleria from AIIMS, Dr. S. C. Tiwari from Fortis Hospital, Dr. Kamlesh Chopra from IMSA, Dr. Sanjay Sood from IMA NDB and Dr. A. K. Kansal, IMA Janak Puri Branch.
Following public health messages regarding renal transplants were released:
- Kidney transplant is the best for patients of chronic kidney failure.
- The patient after kidney transplant can live comfortably without dialysis for upto 25 years.
- Uncontrolled diabetes and hypertension are the two most common causes of kidney failure in India.
- The earliest sign of kidney failure is appearance of proteins in micro amounts in urine.
- All kidney patients should keep their cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar under control.
- Diabetic patient with kidney failure can have both pancreas and kidney transplant together.
- Anybody can safely donate kidney to his or her relatives with no risk to the donor.
- For shortage of kidney donor cadaveric transplant is another alternative.
- People who have brain dead situation should offer donation of their kidneys.
- Urine infection should not be ignored and treated timely.
- All kidney patients should be offered preventive vaccinations.
