Government allows cotton exports up to 55 lakh bales in 2010-11 to review the cotton export scenario on 15th November 2010

The Government has allowed the export of cotton from October 1st 2010 up to 55 lakh bales during 2010-11. Announcing the decision here today Shri Rahul Khullar, Secretary, Department of Commerce, stated that, “The approximate quantity of exportable surplus of cotton was arrived at after detailed discussions with the officials from the Department of Textiles, Agriculture and DGFT here last evening. Providing details of the meeting, he informed, that the approximate cotton production in the country during 2010-11 is likely to be 325 lakh bales. The office of the Textile Commissioner shall put in place a system for online registration for export of cotton by 15th September 2010.

Shri Khullar informed that a review meeting with the concerned Departments is scheduled for 15th November 2010, to take further steps, as necessary, as regards the cotton export. The decisions have been taken to protect the interests of the farmers and meet the requirements of the exporting community.
