Haryana Tourism is all set to celebrate 36th year of its glorious existence on 1st September. Haryana Tourism started in the year 1974 with the concept of providing neat and clean lodging and boarding facilities, today has earned a name in Highway Tourism, Recreation Tourism, Heritage Tourism, Adventure Tourism and MICE Tourism. It has also successfully launched the concept of Farm Tourism in Haryana. It is also pioneer in organizing of various fairs and festivals for the promotion of art, crafts and culture of the State. The annual Surajkund Crafts Mela has helped in the promotion of Handlooms and Handicrafts.
Discount of 10% on food would be given to all guests/visitors visiting any of the Tourist Resorts in the State of Haryana on 1st September. Illumination of the entrance gates and welcome banners have been put up at all the resorts and Gift Packs would be given to children accompanying their parents. Cultural programs and competitions for school/college students have been planned at various resorts located at the District Headquarters.
Keeping in view the Commonwealth Games to be held in Delhi in October, 2010, renovation and up-gradation of the Tourist Complexes in NCR Region has been undertaken. Under this, rooms have been upgraded with furniture/fabrics, LCD’s, Mini refrigerators and Split ACs etc.. For stay of the visitors during Commonwealth Games, Camping Sites with Tented Accommodation with AC and attached toilets have been created at Surajkund (Faridbad) and at Dundahera (Gurgaon). Similar Camping sites are also being set-up in the near future at Damdama, Hodal and Dharuhera.
In the field of MICE Tourism, ultra modern Convention Halls have been set up at Surajkund (Faridabad) and at Tilyar (Rohtak). Similarly, land has been acquired at Red Bishop, Panchkula for the 3rd Convention Hall and funds for its construction have been provided by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. Facility of On-Line booking of rooms has been introduced and working effectively. Judging the performance of Haryana Tourism, the Ministry of Tourism ,G.O.I. has given Haryana Tourism the National Award for Promotion of MICE Tourism in Public Sector and again a National Award for promotion of Bhima Devi as a Best maintained tourist friendly monument.
To provide quality manpower and to enhance employment opportunities in Tourism Industry, two Institutes of Hotel Management (IHM’s) have been set-up at Kurukshetra and at Faridabad, third IHM under PPP Mode, is under construction at Faridabad and the fourth IHM again is under construction at Rohtak. The Food Crafts Institute Faridabad (which has now been upgraded as IHM, Faridabad) has been given the Award for National Excellence in Hospitality Education by the National Council of Hotel Management, Ministry of Tourism, GOI.
It is for the first time that State Government has announced its Tourism Policy in 2008. A major thrust has been provided to tourism promotion so that it becomes a major engine of economic growth and catalyst of employment generation. The Tourism Policy has acknowledged the role of private sector in tourism development and promotion with Government acting as facilitator and catalyst for the future growth. The tourism/hotel projects have been declared as an industry and henceforth such projects will get concessions/ incentives at par with the industries in 95 blocks of the State.Land Bank has been created and 11 projects have been identified for implementation under Public Private Partnership (PPP). These are setting up of integrated tourism resorts and Spas etc. at Kalesar, Mallah and Madhogarh , Amusement & Theme parks at Karna Lake, Kurukshetra, Rohtak and camping sites at Surajkund, Dundahera, Damdama, Hodal and Dharuhera .
