Schools have significant role in imparting effective sex education to adolescents. Ministry of Human Resource Development has introduced an educational programme, known as Adolescence Education Programme (AEP) at secondary level, after consultation with representatives of the State Governments and other stakeholders. This programme focuses on making students aware of the concerns of adolescence stage, and dangers of HIV/AIDS and substance abuse; helping them to acquire necessary life skills to enable them to avoid risky situations; to take informed decisions and to develop healthy and responsible behaviour.
