Smt. Urvashi Gulati, Chief Secretary, Haryana today inaugurated the 19th Mango Mela at Yadavindra Gardens , Pinjore in the Panchkula District. Others present on the occasion were Sh.Roshan Lal, Financial Commissioner & Principal Secretary Agriculture, Dr.Maha Singh, Financial Commissioner & Principal Secretary Tourism, Smt. Keshni Anand Arora, Financial Commissioner & Principal Secretary Forests, Sh. P.Raghvindra Rao, Financial Commissioner, Panchayat, Sh.S.N.Roy, Managing Director, Haryana Tourism Corporation, Sh. O.P.Langayan, Managing Director, Haryana Seeds Development Corp., Sh.Ashok Yadav, Director Horticulture, Haryana, Ms.Ashima Garg, Deputy Commissioner, Panchkula, Dr. S.S Phulia, Addl. Managing Director, Haryana Tourism and other Senior Officers of the District Administration. The Chief Guest was received in a very traditional style reminiscent to the history of these ancient Mughal Gardens. The 19th Mango Mela would continue till late evening on 4th July, 2010. There was a lot of enthusiasm amongst the participants and the Mango Lovers who had thronged these beautiful gardens from even the remotest places of North India.
The Chief Guest was escorted to the Mela venue where around 3060 entries of 401 varities of Mangoes, out of which 2355 of Mangoes & 326 of Mango Products mouth-watering Mango varieties were displayed by the farming community from various states like Haryana (2516), Punjab (211), Himachal Pradesh (102) & Uttar Pradesh (231) besides 368 entries of Government institutes / universities. The Mango and Mango products were showcased at its best in a part of Gardens specially crafted to suit to the display of these products. A traditional crafts bazaar had been set-up to give a unique opportunity to the potential buyers to have a look and purchase the finest Handlooms and Handicrafts traditions of India. The mela also provides an opportunity to the craftspersons to know the growing market trends so as to make their products more sellable. A food plaza had been set-up where mouth tingling delicacies made of Mangoes were offered to the visitors. Haryanvi Dance, Bhangra, Kacchi Ghori of Jaipur, Puppet Show of Rajasthan, Banchari Dhol Nagara of Hodel, Bagpiper from Karnal, Been Sapera Panipat, Long Man Bamboo Walker & Bioscope wala from Delhi were entertaining the capacity crowd at the venue.
The Chief Guest took keen interest in variety of Mangoes on display and interacted with the farming community to know the level of production and further improvement and innovations in the Mangoes and Mango products. She was then taken to the crafts bazaar where she spent time on having a look on the finest handicrafts at display especially brass and metal works.
Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest stated that an intensive efforts were being made by the Haryana Government to bring the best of Mango varieties under one roof. She felt that it was one of the most unique opportunity for the people of this area to see and taste the best of Mango and Mango products. She applauded the efforts of Haryana Tourism and Horticulture Department, Haryana for putting up good show to boost the moral of the farming community. She further stressed that the farmers were being imparted training at Horticulture Training Institute, Unchain (Karnal) to encourage farmers to go for Mango cultivation. She further expressed satisfaction on the efforts of Horticulture Department in establishing food arks at various parts of the States to overcome the problems of processing.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr.Maha Singh, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary Tourism thanked the Chief Guest for sparing sometime out of her busy schedule to encourage such activities. He further stated that Mango Mela was a much awaited activity for the resident of Injure, Panchkula, Chandigarh, Mohall and other adjoining areas. Considering the overwhelming response in the past, efforts were being made to widen the domain of Mela Organization this year. Various competitions were planned during the Mela to encourage the tiny tots to participate and have a glimpse of the most wonderful fruits knows as “King of Fruits”. He further stressed that these kinds of opportunities improves foot fall in the Tourism Sector and Baima Devi Temple is strategically placed to make it an ancient destination for the visiting tourists. He further promised that the Haryana Tourism would spare no stone unturned in making Addenda Gardens a favourite destination for inbound tours on the world map. Efforts were being made to restore the past glory of these Gardens and this would continue in the days to come under the dynamic leadership of Ch.Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Chief Minister, Haryana who is very keen in developing Kurukshetra and Pinjore as preferred destinations of Haryana.
A committee of experts namely Sh. N.K.Sathi, Artist, Ms. Renu Hooda, Arts Officer of DPR Haryana & Dr. Gagandeep Kaur, Asst. Professor (Fine Arts), Govt. College, Ambala Cantonment adjudged the winners of Rangoli, Slogan Writing and Face Painting competitions where hundreds of children participated.
Later in the evening, Haryanvi Vandana, Haryanvi Lok Nrityas were organized in association with Public Relation and Cultural Affairs Department, Haryana. Sufiana Kalam by Professor Hemraj also enthralled the capacity crowd on the occasion. The Chief Guest enjoyed each moment of it and later met the participating cultural performers.
