अमर शहीद नवाब अब्दुर्रहमान खां को सलाम

1857 की जंगे-आज़ादी में हरियाणा का भी अहम योगदान रहा है। जंगे-आज़ादी का बिगुल बजते ही झज्जर के नवाब अब्दुर्रहमान ख़ां ने भी अपने देश को गुलामी की जंजीरों से आजाद कराने के लिए तलवार उठा ली। उनकी अगुवाई में झज्जर की जनता भी इस समर में कूद पडी। 1845 में नवाब अब्दुर्रहमान खां ने गद्दी संभाली थी। क्रूर और विलासी पिता द्वारा पीड़ित जनता उन्हें विरासत में मिली थी। उन्हें अपने पिता की बजाय अपने दादा फ़ैज़ मोहम्मद के गुण उत्तराधिकार में मिले थे।
शासन संभालते ही नवाब अब्दुर्रहमान ख़ां ने सबसे पहले किसानों का लगान खत्म किया और सारा ध्यान राज्य को सुव्यवस्थित करने में लगा दिया। उन्होंने कुतानी के स्यालु सिंह, झज्जर के रिछपाल सिंह और बादली के चौधरी गुलाब सिंह को उच्च पद देकर प्रशासन को सुचारू रूप से चलाने में उनकी मदद की। नवाब अब्दुर्रहमान ख़ां के कुशल प्रबंधन के साथ-साथ इमारतें और तालाब बनवाने में भी ख़ासी दिलचस्पी ली। उन्होंने अनेक इमारतें तामीर कर्राईं। झज्जर में बेगम महल, झज्जर की जामा मस्जिद का मुख्य द्वार, गांव छूछकवास में महल और तालाब, दादरी में इला और किले के अंदर ख़ूबसूरत इमारतों का निर्माण करवाया। मुगल और भारतीय शैली में बनी ये इमारतें प्राचीन कलात्मक कारीगरी के नायाब नमूनों के रूप में विख्यात हैं।
जब बहादुरगढ़ के नवाब इस्माईल ख़ां स्वर्ग सिधार गए तो बहादुरगढ़ रियासत का काम भी नवाब अब्दुर्रहमान ख़ां ने ही संभाला। उस समय नवाब इस्माईल खां के बेटे जंग बहादुर की उम्र महज अढ़ाई साल थी। बालिग होकर जंग बहादुर ने अपना हक मांगा तो नवाब अब्दुर्रहमान खां ने दादरी का इलाका रखकर बाकी बहादुरगढ़ की रियासत उसे लौटा दी। जंग बहादुर ने अंग्रेजी रेजीडेंट देहली की सेवा में फरियाद की। उसने 19 गांव जंग बहादुर को दिलाकर बाकी इलाका नवाब अब्दुर्रहमान ख़ां दिलवा दिया। कुछ वक्त बाद जंग बहादुर दिवालिया हो गए। दादरी क्षेत्र के कुर्क होने का ख़तरा हो गया। नवाब अब्दुर्रहमान खां ने सारा कर्ज चुकाकर दादरी इलाके को अपने कब्जे में ले लिया। उस वक्त दादरी रियासत में 360 गांव आते थे। नवाब के जिला गजेटियर के मुताबिक इसकी आबादी करीब 110700 और क्षेत्रफल 1230 वर्गमील था। हालांकि मुस्लिम कुल आबादी के करीब 10 फीसदी थे, लेकिन शासन में उनका महत्वपूर्ण योगदान था।
1855 में नवाब अब्दुर्रहमान ख़ां ने धीरे-धीरे अपनी फौज बढानी शुरू कर दी। शहर से बाहर छावनी बनाई गई। नवाब की फौज में पूबीये, तेलंगे और जाट शामिल थे। झज्जर के किले पर तोपें चढ़वा दीं। नवाब ने 1857 की जंगे-आजादी की पूरी तैयारी कर ली। छावनी में हर रोज फौजियों को परेड होती। गांव छूछक में फौजी गोलीबारी का अभ्यास करते। नवाब को घोड़ा का भी शौक था। नवाब के दिल में अंग्रेजों के प्रति आक्रोश दिनोदिन बढ़ रहा था। जब आखिरी मुगल सम्राट बहादुरशाह ज़फ़र ने अंग्रेजों को देश से निकालने का बीड़ा उठाया तो सबसे पहली प्रतिक्रिया झज्जर रियासत पर हुई। इसका सबूत यह अवध की बेगम कैसर का लिखा कैसरनामा है, जो काकोरी के अमीर महल के पुस्तकालय में आज भी सुरक्षित है।
10 मई 1857 को जब मेरठ में क्रांति का शंखनाद हुआ तो उसकी गूंज दूर-दूर तक सुनाई दी। कुछ इतिहासकार इसे अंबाला से शुरू हुआ मानते हैं। मेरठ के बांगी सिपाही दिल्ली ओर बढ़ चले। उनका मकसद बहादुरशाह ज़फ़र की अगुवाई में अंग्रेंजों के ख़िलाफ़ एकजुट होना था। क्रांतिकारियों के दिल्ली पहुंचते ही अंग्रेज घबरा गए। उन्होंने नवाब से 500 फौजियों और तोपखाने की मदद मांगी, ताकि बाकी क्रांतिकारियों को मेरठ से दिल्ली पहुंचने से रोका जा सके। नवाब से बहाना बनाकर मदद भेजने से इंकार कर दिया। दूसरी तरफ अपने ससुर अब्दुस्समद खां की अगुवाई में कुछ फौजी बहादुरशाह जफर की मदद के लिए दिल्ली रवाना कर दिए। उन्होंने बहादुरशाह ज़फ़र को दिल्ली का शासक बनने में भरपूर मदद की।
जब दिल्ली के कमिश्नर एस। प्रेसर को क्रांतिकारियों ने कत्ल कर दिया और ज्वाइंट मैटकाफ़ पर हमला किया तो वे जान बचाकर भागे और छिपते-छिपाते बच्चों सहित झज्जर पहुंच गए। नवाब ने उन्हें आधे-अधूरे मन से छूछकवास के महल में भिजवा दिया। अंग्रेजी हुकूमत का साथ देने का स्वांग करने के साथ-साथ नवाब अब्दुर्रहमान ख़ां बहादुरशाह ज़फ़र , राजा नाहर सिंह और राव तुलाराम सरीखे क्रांतिकारियों के लगातार संपर्क में रहे। काकोरी के अमीर महल में रखा कैसरनामा इसका प्रमाण है।
नवाब अब्दुर्रहमान ख़ां की फौज अंग्रेजी फौज को हरा सकती थी, लेकिन विश्वासघाती दीवान रिछपाल ने उन्हें आत्मसमर्पण की सलाह दी। नवाब ने छूछकवास स्थित अपने महल पर कर्नल लारेंस के सामने आत्मसमर्पण कर दिया। 18 अक्टूबर को झज्जर के किले पर ब्रिटिश झंडा फहरा दिया गया। धन-धान्य पूर्ण झज्जर नगर लूट लिया गया। नवाब की लाखों रुपए की संपत्ति के अलावा गाय, भैंसें और घोडे सब लूट लिए गए। झज्जर के चारों ओर प्रसिध्द सड़कों पर निरीह प्रजा को फांसी पर लटका दिया गया। नवाब के खिलाफ मुकदमा चलाया गया।
जनरल चैंबरलेन की अध्यक्षता में गठित फौजी आयोग के सामने नवाब को पेश किया गया। इस इकतरफा मुकदमे की पहली पेश 14 दिसंबर 1857 को लाल किले के रॉयल हॉल में और दूसरी पेशी 17 दिसंबर 1857 को हुई और पूर्व नियोजित षड़यंत्र के तहत नवाब को फांसी की सजा सुनाई गई। नवाब पर तीन मुकदमे चलाए गए। नवाब अब्दुर्रहमान ख़ां ने अंग्रेज सरकार के खिलाफ विद्रोहियों की मदद की और जहां मार्शल लॉ लागू था वहां विद्रोह करने और कराने की कोशिश की। नवाब अब्दुर्रहमान ख़ां ने विद्रोहियों को फौज, शरण और धन दिया।
नवाब ने सरकार को धोखा देने के लिए विद्रोहियों के साथ पत्र व्यवहार किया। इस तरह के और भी अनेक मनघडंत आरोप लगाए गए। 23 दिसंबर 1857 को हरियाणा में क्रांति की अलख जगाने वाले क्रांतिकारी नवाब अब्दुर्रहमान ख़ां को दिल्ली के लाल किले के सामने चांदनी चौक पर सरेआम फांसी दे दी गई। आजादी का वह परवाना हंसते-हंसते शहीद हो गया। अंग्रेजों ने मरने के बाद भी नवाब की लाश के साथ निहायत ही वहशियाना सलूक किया। नवाब की लाश दफनाने के बजाय गङ्ढे में फेंक दिया गया, जहां उसे जानवरों और चील-कव्वों ने नोचा। इससे ज्यादा दुख की बात और क्या होगी कि इस स्वतंत्रता सेनानी को कफन तक नसीब नहीं हुआ। उनकी रियासत के टुकडे-टुकडे क़रके अंग्रेंजों की मदद करने वाले राजाओं को भेंट कर दिए गए। झज्जर की प्रसिध्द नवाबी का इस तरह खात्मा हुआ।
इस वाकिये के करीब नौ दशक बाद वे राजा और नवाब भी जनमानस के साथ आ मिले जिन्होंने नवाब अब्दुर्रहमान ख़ां के खिलाफ अंग्रेजों का साथ दिया था। क्रांतिकारियों का नाम आज भी इतिहास में स्वर्ण अक्षरों में लिखा हुआ है और उनकी कहानियां भी इतिहास की अमर गाथाएं बन गई हैं, लेकिन देशद्रोहियों को आज भी घृणा के साथ याद किया जाता है। तभी तो शहीदों के लिए कहा गया है कि-
शहीदों की चिताओं पर लगेंगे हर बरस मेले
वतन पर मरने वालों का यही बाकी निशां होगा
